Today, Volkswagen is presenting – at Times Square in New York – an entirely new Jetta design. The model series has a global presence with 9.6 million units sold, and it has been a bestseller especially in the USA. The follow-up model to the most successful German brand sedan in America takes a gigantic leap forward – conceptually and especially in its styling. The design projects a more dynamic image than ever before. Offering a preview of the new Jetta’s styling was the NCC coupe concept car shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Designers of the new Jetta sedan drew their inspiration from the coupe, and this bodes well for the potential sports appeal of the new Jetta. This also means that the new Jetta will no longer be sharing any body components with the Golf, rather it will be a vehicle type that is just as independent as a CC or a Tiguan. At the Transparent Factory in Dresden Volkswagen produces one of the finest automobiles in the world: the Phaeton. The limousine’s quality and comfort (four-wheel drive and air suspension as standard) set a unique benchmark. Volkswagen, the most successful carmaker in Europe and China, has now made the Phaeton even more perfect. Volkswagen remains on course for becoming the world’s most environmentally-friendly automaker: The Milano Taxi, a study of a mass-market taxi powered by an electric motor, made its world debut at Hannover Messe which opened today.
Volkswagen’s electric strategy is the central element of the company’s presence at the trade fair. Volkswagen will be launching several electric vehicles in 2013. The Touran from Volkswagen is the most successful German compact MPV and “the” consummate family vehicle. Exactly 1.13 million units of the Touran have been sold to date. In Germany, it currently holds a market share of nearly 50 percent in its segment and across Europe, the Volkswagen ranks among the top five in its class. At the Auto Mobil International in Leipzig (10 to 18 April), Volkswagen is now presenting a generation of the bestseller that has been redesigned in many areas. The look of the Touran now follows the updated Volkswagen “design DNA”. From a technical viewpoint, its progressive systems break through class boundaries, as in the case of the continuous main beam headlights (Dynamic Light Assist) being introduced on an MPV for the first time, and the new Park Assist 2.0 for nearly automatic parallel and diagonal parking. A full range of six new petrol and diesel engines point the way to fuel economy and emissions values which were previously inconceivable on an MPV. Setting the pace in sustainability is the Touran TDI BlueMotion Technology (77 kW / 105 PS): The Touran sets a new best value for a seven-seater MPV with combined fuel consumption of 4.6 l/100 km (equivalent to 121 g/km CO2). With over 600,000 units sold, Volkswagen’s Sharan is the favourite vehicle of countless families all over Europe. Coming now, with a world premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show (4th to 14th March), is a completely new generation of this best seller. Equipped for the first time with sliding doors in the back, the 2010 Sharan has been enhanced in every area. There are only two parts that the new and the old Sharan have in common: the sun visors. That’s it! Everything else – every screw, every exterior and interior part and all of the technology, including the TDI and TSI engines (103kW / 140PS to 147kW / 200PS) and transmission systems (DSG optional) – is new. Sharan 3.0, as it were, offering world-record performance in fuel efficiency: at 5.5 litres per 100km (51,4 mpg), the 140PS Sharan 2.0 TDI achieves lower fuel consumption than any other MPV in this class. Volkswagen is unveiling the completely redeveloped Touareg as a world premiere. It is the most technically innovative “VW” since the brand has been in existence. This Touareg is reinterpreting the fascinating multipurpose SUV idea in a contemporary way – thanks to a range of engines that are nearly 20 percent more fuel efficient and a large variety of new assistance and safety systems. The Touareg will also be the first and only off-roader in Europe by a German car maker to be available in a hybrid version too. It sets standards among fully off-road capable SUVs with petrol engines that have a fuel consumption value of just 8.2 litres fuel per 100 kilometres. The Touareg Hybrid can be driven up to 50 km/h in purely electric mode – emissions-free. Among the diesel engines, the Touareg V6 TDI with 7.4 litre combined fuel consumption now posts the best value in the segment of genuine SUVs.
